Drugs, moms and mental illness don’t mix

Poor little guy in Camden, NJ died at the hands of his MM, who had a history of mental illness and drug charges. In fact, her son had been taken away from her not once, but twice. The last time was after she left him in a car after smoking weed laced with PCP.

The big question is, why did she have custody of the boy in the first place? Other questions are: what makes you think getting loopy off some drug called WET is a good idea while you are watching your kid? How do you bear to cut off the head of your own flesh and blood?

Oh, yeah, mental illness, check.

Poor MM needed help, and it’s hard not to think that failures in the system led to the boy’s death just as much as the kitchen knife in his mom’s hand. She was in counseling and had just recently  gotten custody of her boy. She called 911 after the disgusting deed, but blamed her boyfriend first, whom she had been sitting with on the front steps while topless, and saying he stabbed the boy. She finally admitted it was her, and then she killed herself with said knife as well.

Guess she came down from the high and realized cutting her kid’s head off was not something she could live with forever. Ugh.

Choke the ones you love

Usually, we hear of mean moms who smother, drown, shake and starve their babies. It is rare that a story comes out where the MM is attacking an older kid, one that might even be able to get away. But so is the case in sunny Tucson, AZ, where our latest MM decided she had had enough and it was time for her 10-year-old to go. Instead of sending him off to grandma’s house, she wanted him gone-gone and to accomplish this she grabbed the nearest cord and wrapped it around his neck.

Thankfully, she called the cops on herself -- cry for help anyone? -- and the boy was treated at the scene and then rushed to the hospital where he remained in critical condition as of this writing. Her second son was placed in protective custody, and while it was said that the father of the boys died recently, no word on how, or if he was living in the household at the time of his death.

Here’s to a speedy recovery for that boy and help for everyone involved. It sounds like some counseling for the recent loss and even more recent violence is needed. A link to the story as it appears on tucsonnews.com appears below.
